"Scripture Union has shown me that we are called to be role models wherever we are, especially in our families...."

More than 240 young people gathered in Cibitoke for a two-day mini-camp that challenged them to take responsibility for their future, strengthen their faith, and become positive influences in their families, schools, and communities.

Held at the Methodist Parish of Cibitoke, the mini-camp brought together participants for a time of biblical teaching, worship, prayer, fellowship, and personal reflection. Throughout the event, young people were encouraged to discover God's purpose for their lives and to make choices that reflect their faith and values.

One of the participants, 16-year-old Mwubahwa Amiel, described the camp as a turning point in the way he views responsibility and leadership.

"SU has shown me that we are called to be role models wherever we are, especially in our families. I learned that we should not be lazy because even the Bible says that the one who does not work should not eat. We need to take initiative, stop being passive, and start doing what we are supposed to do if we want to move forward."

Amiel explained that the teaching challenged him to stop postponing important decisions and to begin acting intentionally today. He also reflected on the importance of discipline, respect for parents, and choosing friendships wisely, recognising the powerful influence relationships can have on a person's future.

Throughout the camp, participants explored practical and biblical topics including personal responsibility, wise decision-making, respect for parents and authorities, healthy relationships, and discernment in the face of false teachings. These sessions helped young people connect their faith to everyday challenges and equipped them with tools to navigate life with confidence and wisdom.

For Zoé Buzima Queen, the experience brought a new understanding of how daily choices shape the future.

"The teachings helped me realise how much the people around us can influence our lives. I understood that faith in God must be accompanied by personal responsibility. I cannot remain passive and expect change. I must make intentional choices and work toward my goals."

Like many other participants, Zoé left the camp with a renewed commitment to pursue her future with purpose and to surround herself with people who encourage her growth and faith.

Beyond the teaching sessions, participants experienced meaningful moments of worship, prayer, and fellowship. A special highlight was the screening of a film about the life of Jesus, which reinforced the message that true and lasting hope is found in Christ.

The impact of the camp was evident in the testimonies shared throughout the event. Many young people expressed a renewed desire to strengthen their relationships with parents and authorities, make wiser decisions, and live as faithful witnesses of Christ in their daily environments. Several participants also committed themselves to becoming active leaders and positive examples among their peers.

Scripture Union Burundi is helping raise a generation of young people who are rooted in God's Word, equipped to make wise decisions, and prepared to influence their communities for Christ. The seeds planted during these two days will continue to bear fruit in homes, schools, churches, and communities across Cibitoke.
