Raising Christ-Centered Leaders

'What impacted me the most is realising that wherever we are at school, we are ambassadors of Christ.'

Every week, thousands of students gather in Bible Groups across Burundi to study God's Word and encourage one another in their faith. For many boarding students who spend most of the year away from home, the Bible Group leader often becomes their closest spiritual guide, mentor, encourager, and shepherd.

Recognising the importance of this role, Scripture Union Burundi organised a nationwide training for Bible Group leaders, bringing together 871 student leaders from 178 schools. More than just a training, it was a time of renewed vision, personal growth, and spiritual transformation.

Participants were equipped with biblical leadership principles and practical skills in planning, communication, teamwork, and group management. Many came to understand that leadership is not simply about organising activities, but about influencing others through Christ-like character and faithful service.

One participant, Vyagizimana Révérien from Lycée Communal de Muhuta, shared:

“I learned that a leader must be a light to others and demonstrate good behaviour. Through this training, I understood the importance of organising our Bible Groups well and truly listening to others. I was also reminded that, despite our responsibilities, our studies must remain a priority. What impacted me the most is realising that wherever we are at school, we are ambassadors of Christ. These teachings deeply touched me, and I am committed to putting them into practice in my life and in the group I lead.”

As these 871 leaders return to their schools, they carry the opportunity to influence thousands of students through discipleship, fellowship, and Christ-centred leadership. Through this investment, Scripture Union Burundi continues to raise a generation firmly rooted in God's Word and prepared to make a lasting difference in their schools and communities.
