From 28 to 30 December 2025, Scripture Union Burundi gathered volunteers from across the country at Gitega International Academy for a Training of Trainers focused on strengthening its core programs. From 28 to 30 December 2025, Scripture Union Burundi gathered volunteers from across the country at Gitega International Academy for a Training of Trainers focused on strengthening its core programs. What was initially planned as a technical formation quickly became a deeply transformative experience. Participants arrived expecting to gain knowledge and practical tools for ministry, but they left with something far greater — a renewed sense of identity, purpose, and calling.

During the training, teachings centered on identity, integrity, and servant leadership challenged participants to look beyond their roles and responsibilities and reflect on who they are as individuals. They were reminded that ministry is not only about what one does, but about the character one embodies. Skills and knowledge are essential, but it is integrity, humility, and a clear sense of calling that sustain meaningful and lasting impact.

As the sessions progressed, many volunteers began to experience a shift in perspective. They realized that their involvement in ministry was not accidental, but intentional. Each one of them had a role to play in shaping the lives of children, youth, and families within their communities. This realization brought a renewed sense of responsibility and commitment, transforming how they viewed their service.

The testimony of Nduwamahoro Anatole captures this transformation in a powerful way. He shared, “This program helped me understand that I was chosen for a reason. I no longer see myself as just a volunteer, but as someone called to equip others. I am going back ready to train and impact my community.” His words reflect a deeper conviction that emerged among many participants — a movement from simply participating in activities to embracing a mission with purpose.

As the training came to an end, participants returned to their respective regions carrying more than manuals and notes. They carried a renewed vision and a commitment to multiply what they had received. The essence of the Training of Trainers approach lies in this multiplication, where those who are equipped become equippers of others, extending the impact far beyond the initial group.

This experience reaffirmed a fundamental truth: when leaders are shaped, communities are changed. The transformation that begins in the life of one committed individual can influence many others, creating a ripple effect that reaches families, schools, and entire communities. The volunteers who gathered in Gitega left not only better prepared, but also deeply convinced that they are part of something greater than themselves.

They were not there by chance. They were being shaped for a purpose, equipped for a mission, and sent out to make a difference.
