Raising Responsible Youth: Inspiring Young People to Make Wise Choices in Kigobe

Young people face important decisions that can shape the direction of their lives. Helping them navigate these choices with wisdom, confidence, and a sense of responsibility is essential to building a generation equipped to make a positive difference in their communities.
This was at the heart of a youth-focused activity organized by Scripture Union Burundi (SU Burundi) at Emmanuel Church of Kigobe. Through practical and relevant teachings on “Love Without Regret” and “Making the Best Decisions,” students were encouraged to reflect on their choices, develop responsible attitudes, and consider how their decisions today can shape their future.
The activity also provided an opportunity to introduce the Catalyze programme, implemented by SU Burundi in partnership with OneHope. The programme seeks to support the holistic development of young people, equipping them to grow in their faith and make meaningful contributions to society.
A message that inspired a response
The impact of the teaching was evident in the students' response. Following the session on “Love Without Regret,” 22 students came forward to receive prayer support, expressing their desire to turn away from risky romantic relationships and make choices that align with their values and future aspirations.

Among those personally impacted was Habonimana Amidou, a student at Lycée Municipal Nyabagere I. He shared that he had been considering entering a romantic relationship but that the teaching helped him reconsider his decision.
He realized that he needed to wait until he was mature enough to build a healthy and stable relationship. Beyond relationships, the session also challenged him to become more intentional in his daily decisions, taking time to consider the consequences of his words and actions before acting.

Churches encouraged to invest in young people
The impact extended beyond the students. Pastor
Barakamfitiye Léopold of Emmanuel Church of Kigobe also expressed his appreciation for the activity, testifying to the positive changes he had witnessed among the young people.
He highlighted the importance of equipping young people to become responsible individuals who can positively influence their families, communities, and the nation. He also prayed for SU Burundi, asking God to continue blessing and strengthening the organization in its mission to transform lives through churches, schools, and Bible groups.
Investing in a generation that makes a difference
The activity in Kigobe reflects SU Burundi's ongoing commitment to raising a generation of responsible, confident, and purpose-driven young people.
By creating spaces where young people can engage with God's Word, reflect on real-life challenges, and receive practical guidance, SU Burundi continues to invest in their spiritual and personal development.
The response in Kigobe is a reminder that when young people are equipped with the right guidance and support, they can make choices that not only transform their own lives but also positively influence the people and communities around them.
